Description:
Class 2 Medium Rigid Heavy Vehicles, (One and half day course)
With a full class 2 heavy vehicle driver’s license, a driver can operate.
- A rigid vehicle, including any tractor, with a Gross Laden Weight of more than 6000 kg, but not more than 18000 kg.
- A combination vehicle, that is not a tractor/trailer combination with more than a Gross Laden Weight of not more than 12000 kg.
- An agricultural motor vehicle that runs on wheels with a Gross Laden Weight of more than 6000 kg, but not more than 18000 kg if driven at a speed not exceeding 40km/hr with or without a Wheels endorsement.
- A rigid vehicle with 2 axles or less
Operator requirements prior to applying for a full class 2 license.
- Operator must hold a valid and current New Zealand class 2 Learners license.
- Operator must have held a full class 1 New Zealand drivers license for at least 6 months.
- Operator must have completed the supplied pre-course material.
- Operator must show evidence of practical driver training prior to licensing assessment.
Course content
- Unit standard 24089 – Fatigue management, work time and driver logbook
- Unit standard 15158 – Carry out pre-start vehicle on a heavy vehicle, prepare vehicle for use, and shut it down.
- Unit standard 17574 theory training and assessment
- 2 Hours of pre- licensing practical driving and coaching
- Full class 2 practical driving assessment
- Feedback and acknowledgement of assessment results
- A re-assessment option if available at an extra cost when the desirable outcome is not achieved on a full class 2 practical and or theory assessment.
